Abstract

The effects of bezafibrate on type IIb and IV hyperlipoproteinemia were investigated in 60 patients from Jan. 1981 to Nov. 1981 at Kyung Hee University Hospital. 200mg of bezafi¡þbrate were given orally three times daily for 4 to 6 weeks and the data were analized as follow with a double olind method.
1. In over all cases with hyperlipoproteinemia, the percentage change for TG with bezaf ibrate therapy amounted to -31%(p<0.005), for TC - 14% (p<0. 0025) and for HDL-choles¡þterol +20%/(p<0-05).
2. In type IIb patients, the percentage change for TG with bezafibrate therapy was -33% (p<0.005), for TC -160o(p<0.005) and for HDL-cholesterol +290o(p<0.025).
3. In type IV patients, the percentage change for TG with bezafibrate therapy was -36% (p<0.005), for TC -11%(p<0-025) and for HDL-cholesterol +23-5%1(p<0-05)¡þ
4. Three patients experienced mild epigastric discomfort and nausea. These side effects were transient and disappeared within a few days spontaneously.
